About the project As part of a
long-term process of building its capability to support future operations, a
defence organisation identified fundamental changes to existing processes.
Prime amongst these was the need to introduce a core production process
built around a master information system.
The client required Lean Sigma business analysis support and capability to
identify current and future processes necessary to the effective
implementation of new products and services.
The Approach Working with customers
and stakeholders to elicit benefits-focused requirements, Amtec used the
Lean Sigma toolkit to map, model and analyse current and proposed
"end-to-end" business processes and metrics. A representation of
proposed roles and responsibilities provided a better understanding as to
how new processes would operate in practice.
Amtec's initial approach to the project was to understand the
end-customer, stakeholder and business need, through a document review,
supported by a number of one-to-one meetings and workshops.
Having developed a better understanding of the organisation and its
"vision", together with a practical understanding of what was
required, Amtec sought to use the full range of tools available to document
the "as is" processes. Identification of key metrics enabled an
assessment of resource input against the outputs for the key processes.
Key stakeholders were consulted through a number of interactive workshops,
the output from which was analysed and "mapped" against the
identified requirements.
Underpinning the project is the development of a benefits system, to
enable the effectiveness of the changes to be captured, and to be refined as
necessary. All the processes, metrics and working arrangements were fully
documented at each milestone of this project.
The Outcome Using Lean Sigma tools,
Amtec has engaged users and stakeholders in developing new, robust processes
to ensure the organisation continues to be "fit for purpose".
Amtec Lean Consultants continue to work with the client to achieve the
required outcomes.
