The Children's Prescribing Project in an NHS hospital was commissioned by CFH under the Do Once and Share Programme (DOAS). AMTEC consultants supported the project by co-ordinating the Core Action Team's work, organising meetings, contributing as paediatric nurse representative and supporting the Project Lead.

Objective
To synthesise and promote best practice nationally on prescribing for children by contributing and responding to opportunities offered by the National Programme for IT.
Achievement
When prescribing, dispensing, and administering medicines for children, the project achieved:
  • better access to effective and safe medications for children and young people,
  • better communication, information and support for patients and their carers,
  • better support to prescribers in selection of medications, doses and formulations,
  • reduction of error and risk.
