Based on detailed research with AMTEC Consulting and other member companies,
the MCA's recently published report on management consulting and the NHS is
attracting widespread interest from the press and from decision-makers in
government.
'Improving Care, Reducing Cost' contains the first
authoritative analysis of how much the NHS spends on management consultancy. It
reveals that total spending amounts to just 0.3% of its budget and spend per
employee is roughly one tenth of that spent by large private sector
organisations.
The Management Consultancies Association (MCA) asked AMTEC to explain the work
that it does with the NHS, why it thinks this work is valuable and how it fits
with a future of high quality healthcare delivery at a cost the UK taxpayer is
able and willing to pay.
"The report finds that most spending on consultancy is associated
with significant programmes, which certainly reflects our experience,"
says AMTEC's Director of Consulting, Romy Nash, who is quoted in the report.
"Our work ranges from commissioning clinical services to managing
infection control programmes, but the focus is always on delivering successful
outcomes in terms of improved patient care and greater efficiency."
AMTEC Consulting works with the Department of Health and the NHS to
