As the owner of some of the country's largest computer systems and data
centres, the UK government is taking a global lead in addressing the
environmental impact of ICT. One year on from the government's Greening ICT
Strategy, the CIO Council responsible has instructed all central government
departments to deliver a minimum of 10 recommended actions against the 18 target
improvement areas in the strategy.
AMTEC is working with public sector ICT managers to embed green best practice
in many different ways, including data centre rationalisation, green sourcing,
green methodology, regulatory compliance and server capacity management.
"The company uses its own best practice methodology to assess an
organisation's environmental compliance and make recommendations for further
efficiencies," says AMTEC's Head of Management Consulting Romy Nash.
"Our specialist consultants know exactly how to implement environmental
best practice whilst achieving a technology-driven competitive advantage to
underpin the delivery of business objectives."
In the latest of a series of assignments focussed on green computing, AMTEC is
to carry out an independent green audit of ICT for a government department.
The company's ICT consulting team will look at a large outsourced data centre
to assess its green credentials against the Greening ICT Strategy and the
client's own environmental and sustainability strategy, and identify ways to
further reduce its carbon impact.
AMTEC's success comes on the back of its selection for the government's new
ICT Consultancy and Delivery Framework, launched on 1st August 2009. Issued by
Buying Solutions, the national procurement partner for UK public services, the
framework provides an exciting opportunity for AMTEC to provide ICT consultancy
and solutions across the public sector for the next three years.
