Cloud and Green Computing

Cloud computing
Cloud computing, or G-Cloud as it is known in the public sector, refers to a relatively new model for delivery of computer services. Users access a shared pool of computing resources (networks, servers, storage, applications and services), through the internet, instead of running software on departmental computers or data centres.
G-Cloud and data centre consolidation form a key part of the Government's ICT Strategy and are expected to deliver a significant portion of its GBP3.2 billion savings target.
Amtec's Cloud Opportunity Assessment Tool (COAT) is a methodical framework for Cloud evaluation and evolution planning. It gives you a head-start in understanding the complexity and implications of Cloud Computing and helps you to assess the suitability of your business and IT operations for delivery through an appropriate cloud-based model.
Green ICT
The intelligent use of ICT not only delivers savings in energy and emissions but can have a dramatic effect on operational efficiency. So it's no surprise that green ICT is pushing rapidly up the agenda of every CEO and CIO.
Greening Government is embedded in all elements of the government ICT strategy (Jan 2010) and is expected to deliver significant cash savings. Many departments are already addressing the CIO ICT roadmap including the mandatory delivery of at least ten of the 18 recommended actions from the strategy.
Green ICT starts with a whole life-cycle approach from production to use to recycling, a smarter way of using and procuring ICT, the entrenchment of green thinking into an organisation's business operations and an understanding of the wider context for savings.
Amtec will help you to interpret green ICT strategy - tell you how others have improved their rating - share knowledge and lessons learned. Our green ICT methodology and tools can be used to benchmark where you stand and monitor improvement. Our approach incorporates best practice in Green ICT: standards, good environmental practice, good ICT practice, general best practice and benchmarks, including links to non-green but relevant strategic initiatives.
